Youth Company Auditions
Moving Light Youth Company is for young dancers who are ready to dedicate more time to dance and would like to perform in the Green Mountain Nutcracker. Dancers have an opportunity outside of class time to learn and practice choreography for performance.

Trees & Pollichinelles [Ages 7-8]
Trees: The trees in the enchanted forest swirl and wave their bows as Clara and the Nutcracker Prince move among them on their journey through to the Land of Snow.
Audition Time: 12:30 - 1:00
Polichinelles: Entertain the audience as one of the endearing clowns who emerge from Mother Ginger's skirt.

Fritz, Party Children, Mice & Candy Makers [Ages 9-13]
Fritz: Clara's younger brother leads the other boys in party mischief, and in a fit of jeolousy, steals the Nutcracker from Clara and breaks it as he dramatically hurls it to the ground.

Party Children: Attending a Christmas party set in a 1970s farmhouse, the rambuncious party children dance, conspire and are delighted by the gifts provided by Clara's godfather, Drosselmeier.

Mice: The mice battle alongside the Nutcracker as he goes up against the rodents and their crafty leader, the Rat King.

Candy Makers: Alongside the Sugar Plum Fairy, greet Clara and the Nutcracker as they enter the Land of Sweets.

Teen Company Auditions
Moving Light Teen Dance Company is for serious dancers who would like to dedicate more time to their dance training. Dancers will attend technique classes in various dance styles with
professional teachers. Following class dancers will rehearse for Performances. Opportunities will include the Nutcracker and Vermont Dance Festival. There may also be school performances. A new choreography workshop will be available for company members who are interested. Dancers will work closely with directors on choreography assignments and rehearse their work for performance.
SUNDAYS: 2:00 to - 8:00pm
TEEN COMPANY FEES: $150

Adult Company Auditions
Moving Light’s mission is to bring dancers in the community together to DANCE and to offer a physically and artistically challenging, creative and fun experience. Dancers have the
opportunity to take class, rehearse and perform in the Green Mountain Nutcracker. There are many parts in the production. The degree of difficulty and time commitment vary depending on the part.

Ballet/Pointe Parts [Ages 13 & up]
Ballerina and Harliquin Dolls: These life-size dancing dolls, given as gifts by Drosselmeier to the children at the party, enchant the party children with their own unique dances.

Marzipan: The sweet Marzipan Candy are part of the entertainment in the Land of Sweets. Marzipan is a quintet (or quartet) and is for advanced pointe dancers.

Flowers and Dewdrop: Flowers and a single, glorious Dew Drop provide a waltzing dance for Clara and the Nutcracker in the Land of Sweets.

Sugar Plum Fairy: The Sugar Plum Fairy welcomes Clara and the Prince into her kingdom and performs the classic "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" solo.

Nutcracker: The life-size Nutcracker battles the Rat King and is then transformed into the Prince who guides Clara along her journey to the Land of Sweets.

Modern Parts [Ages 13 & up]
Soldier Doll: As one of the gifts given by Drosselmeier, this life-size soldier doll entertains the children at the party.

Rats, Rat King, Soldiers: The crafty Rat King leads his rat minions in a grand battle against the Nutrcracker and his soldiers.

Snow: The swirling snowflakes in the Land of Snow bring a dramatic conclusion to Act I, entrancing the audience with their surreal dance.

Lumberjacks, Chinese Tea dancers, Arabian belly dancers, Spanish flamenco dancers: The many people who inhabit the Land of Sweets provide unique dances to entertain Clara and the Nutcracker.

Adult Community Company
ADULT COMPANY FEES: Adult Company Members are expected to contribute to the production in some manner (marketing, technical, set design, etc.)
Party Scene Contra Dancers, Mother Ginger
Contra Dancers: Family and friends contra dance in this 1970s Christmas Eve party scene.
Audition Time: 6:00 - 7:00
Mother Ginger: To the delight of the crowd, Mother Ginger dances onto stage and releases the Polichinelle clowns to entertain Clara and the Prince.
