Winter 2012 Dance Session

Our Winter Session runs from January 9th to May 26th. Please keep an eye on our monthly Calendar for all vacation breaks, observation days, and changes to the schedule. Note that class cancellations typically follow school closings for snow days and make up classes will be scheduled.

Creative Dance: Moving Tales

Open up favorite storybooks and leap into an adventure! Children are inspired to explore movement through stories, poetry, illustrations and music.. An energetic and creative introduction to dance! Classes begin with a Yoga inspired warm up.

Discover the magical world of classical ballet. Imagery and improvisation guide dancers to connect mind, body and spirit as they explore ballet. Body awareness and movement vocabulary are introduced in barre work, stretching, center and traveling sequences. Time for creative expression within the formal structure of a ballet class allows dancers to be in their bodies.

For dancers with previous ballet training who are ready to expand their movement vocabulary in classical ballet. With a strong focus on placement, core strength and energy flow of the body in space dancers will gain body awareness that is crucial to performing more demanding steps efficiently and gracefully.

Ballet 4 is for strong intermediate dancers who would like to study Pointe.  Pointe work is done following technique class. All exercises are executed at the barre until students establish correct position on Pointe and proper strength. Dancers must attend 2 ballet technique classes per week.

Ballet 5 & Pointe (Partnering & Variations) is for the experienced dancer who wants to excel in Pointe work. Following technique class dancers will work on fine tuning Pointe technique as well as learning new and challenging material including center and across the floor exercises.  Dancers must attend 3 technique classes per week.  This  class  includes Partnering work and Variations

Modern Technique

Teacher Willow Wonder’s movement style is influence by Limon and Cunningham techniques as well as her own explorations of improvisation.  Momentum, flow, and connection are some of the elements that inform her style.

This class will focus on grounding our bodies so we can move fluidly through space. Building on the fundamentals of Cunningham, Limon, and Release Technique, we will build phrases that both feel good and fly through the air!

This class is for the experienced dancer that likes to move big, upside down and all around. Elements of improvisation and composition will also be explored.

Company Class and Rehearsals

Class Level: Ages 12 and Up

Instructor: Christine Harris

The Company is for dancers who would like to dedicate more time to their dance training. Dancers will have the opportunity to attend additional technique classes with professional teachers and rehearse classical ballet variations and/or original ballet or modern choreography for performance. Work also includes improvisation and partnering.
